Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things
Fleeing a murder charge in Baltimore, a
homosexual jewel thief and his teenage lover
take it on the lam to Miami. The older Paul
disguises himself as the elderly “Aunt
Martha” and rents a house in the suburbs
to live in with his “nephew”
Stanley. Unfortunately, Stanley is a restless
youth who won't stop partying and smoking
pot, and wild friends are driving the possessive,
controlling Paul to desperation, resulting
in a string of murders that could blow their
cover. As the cross-dressing fugitive, Abe
Zwick spends most of his time onscreen in
partial drag, avoiding any acting by simply
hollering each of his lines and pulling
tooth-gnashing grimaces. Stanley proves
to be an emotionally challenged bisexual,
undeniably attracted to females but becoming
violent whenever romance arises. He may
be dangerous, but this dope-addled hippie
proves his sensitivity when he saves the
life of an unborn infant by performing an
impromptu C-section on a dead pregnant woman
in the film's most startling sequence.
